No.10 Morgan Gibbs banned for two Premier League games
Morgan Gibbs-White currently has a one-match ban to his name at Nottingham Forest after picking up two yellow cards in the 2-2 draw against Brighton on Sunday.
The England international was bizarrely dismissed by Rob Jones for a perfectly good tackle on Joao Pedro, despite the 37-year-old gesturing that the Nottingham Forest No.10 had won the ball.
Pathetic officiating, in all honesty.
Now, however, Nuno Espirito Santo could actually be without Morgan Gibbs-White for two Premier League games, not one…
Why Morgan Gibbs-White could see his ban extended
Ryan Taylor of the Mirror has now revealed that the 24-year-old could face further punishment for his reaction to being sent off.
The respected journalist wrote on X (previously known as Twitter): “Morgan Gibbs-White at risk of extra game suspension after it’s alleged he ‘acted in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or insulting words’ towards fourth official after being sent off vs Brighton. Has until Friday to respond.”
In case you missed it, the man from Stafford could be seen angrily pointing his finger at Anthony Taylor – the fourth official on Sunday – as he headed towards the tunnel, shouting in his face.
It came after Jones appeared to allow Taylor to influence his decision making from the sidelines.
As aforesaid, the man with the whistle could initially be seen making a ball gesture with his hands, letting Gibbs-White off, before strangely changing his mind.
Footage above shows that Taylor also seemed to recommend that Nuno be dismissed as well.
Nottingham Forest should be furious
Regardless of whether Gibbs-White sees his ban extended to two games or not, Nottingham Forest should be furious.
A strong, fair tackle which did not even merit the whistle being blown has now led to a touchline ban for Nuno, and at least a one-match suspension for someone who is arguably the club’s best player.
Had Jones simply stuck to his guns and not allowed Taylor to (wrongly) influence him, none of this would have happened.
