Newspaper reveals what Jack Butland has been told at Rangers

Jack Butland has been handed a “major” England boost as his Rangers form has him in strong contention for a Euro 2024 spot, according to The Mirror.

The 30-year-old, who earned the most recent of his nine caps five years ago, has been superb for the Gers since joining on a free contract last summer.

Butland has hit form at just the right time as the European Championship finals are now just four months away.

An article written by Andy Newport for The Mirror‘s print edition [8 February, page 50] read: “Jack Butland has been handed a major England boost after being told he is in the running for a dream Euros recall.”

The article goes on to quote England goalkeeping coach Martyn Margetson as saying: “Jack is definitely on the radar. There is no doubt about that.”

Butland could join a fairly short list of Rangers players to have represented England while still active at Ibrox.

The former Birmingham City goalkeeper surely did not expect to boost his international prospects when moving north of the border.

It goes to show, though, that a move to Scottish football can help to revive the career of any player, Butland included.

Butland is not going to oust Jordan Pickford as England’s first choice before the Euros, but he is absolutely good enough for a squad place.

Aaron Ramsdale is not playing regularly for Arsenal and Nick Pope is nursing a long-term injury, so Butland has a serious shout for selection.

Supporters would be pleased if Butland’s hard work is rewarded come the end of the season, but hopefully it does not put him in the shop window.

However, the Gers have already knocked back some interest in him in January, so hopefully the club remain firm should any bids come in.
