NEWS FLASH: Leicester Still Leading The Race To Sign Matias Soule

Leicester City are said to be leading the race for Juventus’ Matias Soule, though now face strongest competition from AS Roma to complete the transfer.

The Foxes have been described as ‘crazy’ over the 21-year-old. His progress can be tracked through Juve’s youth ranks, right through to already making 21 appearances for the senior team as well as spending a full season gaining Serie A experience on loan to Frosinone last season.

New signing Caleb Okoli has been tipped to play the role of ‘cupid’ as the pair spent last season together, with a number of clubs rumoured to be in the running. However, the latest update on the transfer’s state of play has cut the race down to only two clubs.

Argentine reporter Cesar Luis Merlo states that Leicester and Roma are the two serious suitors in this unfolding saga. Both are offering €25m (£21m) as things stand with his current club holding out for €30m (£25m).

Not hinting at which way the deal will sway, he states: “The negotiation enters the final stage.”

This would eliminate ties to other clubs, for which there have been many in recent weeks. From England, Aston Villa and Newcastle United were credited with interest whilst European giants Bayer Leverkusen and Marseille were also listed in the running.

But whilst Juve may listen to offers, this would seemingly be against the wishes of new manager Thiago Motta, who sees Soule as a potential first-team starter in his rebuild of the Old Lady.
