Newcastle’s lineup to face Sunderland
Eddie Howe has named a strong side to face local rivals Sunderland in the FA Cup third round.
Newcastle United must overcome their awful away form and end a losing streak to beat their bitter rivals on their own turf this afternoon and Eddie Howe has gone all-out to ensure that happens.
Kieran Trippier has passed a late fitness test and will start at right back with Dan Burn on the left, meaning Tino Livramento has to make do with a place on the bench.
Selecting Miggy actually makes sense
Miguel Almiron regains his place in the lineup with Howe likely feeling his relentless energy will give Sunderland plenty to think about
We had predicted that Anthony Gordon would play on the right with Joelinton on the left, but as bad as Miggy has been lately, we can totally see why Howe would pick him today.
With Gordon playing on the left, that means Joelinton will drop back into a central role alongside Bruno Guimaraes and Sean Longstaff with Lewis Miley dropping to the bench.
The confidence is creepign in
Alexander Isak will lead the line with Callum Wilson out injured, but if Isak is on his game today there’ll be very little Sunderland can do to stop him.
The nerves are unreal right now, but there is a bit of confidence creeping in too.
What would absolutely be the best thing ever would be for Lewis Miley to come off the bench and rifle in a thundercracker from about 30 yards.
