Newcastle United Loanee And Bolton Wanderers Star Man On Possible “Permanent Deal” After Impressive Turn Over, And The Decision Is…

Newcastle United player on loan at Bolton Wanderers hailed as ‘brilliant’ by Trotters boss after late inclusion

Young Newcastle United defender Alex Murphy is currently on loan at League One Bolton Wanderers where he’s having to impress a new boss after the gaffer who brought him to the club was relieved of his duties just days after Murphy’s arrival.

Ian Evatt was sacked by Bolton just three days after the loan move of Alex Murphy was completed meaning the 20-year-old Newcastle youngster had the task of winning over the next appointment, essentially starting from scratch.

Murphy has made seven appearances since his January move to Bolton, even popping up with a goal, and while he didn’t add to his goal tally at the weekend, Murphy was singled out for praise following Bolton’s 2-1 win over Burton Albion.

Bolton boss Steven Schumacher used the word ‘brilliant’ several times when describing Murphy’s contribution.

Alex Murphy was ‘brilliant’ at the weekend says Steven Schumacher

Speaking to The Bolton News, Schumacher applauded Murphy for coming into the side at the last minute and adapting to the gameplan.

“George (Johnston) was going to play but Alex stepped in and I thought he was brilliant. Like I say, he wasn’t going to start for us but when we knew George had picked up the injury he had to step in right at the very end. He had done the match prep but not the 11 v 11 stuff yet in training, but I thought he was great.

“He was brilliant, he slotted into that left-hand side centre-back role, which was perfect for him because he is a bombing, running-forward, full-back really.”

Alex Murphy is already looking like a future Newcastle United first-team player

Alex ‘Robocop’ Murphy has flirted with the Newcastle United first team many times having been named on the bench by Eddie Howe during last season’s injury crisis.

He has made it on to the pitch for the first team a few times as well, but it was deemed that he’d be best off going out on loan to get regular football and it sounds like it’s paying off for the Irishman.

Murphy was one of the youngsters who joined during the Dan Ashworth era and feels like one that we’ll be seeing in the first team regularly sooner rather than later.
