Newcastle United Are Now Interested In A Barcelona Defender…..
In a recent report, Mundo Deportivo mentioned that Newcastle United are showing interest in Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen this summer. It has been revealed that the Magpies would have to pay north of €30m to land the Danish talent this month.
Christensen’s Impressive Form At The Nou Camp Last Season
Christensen had a solid campaign at the Catalan club as he put in a string of impressive performances at the heart of their backline. The 28-year-old made 42 appearances for Barca last season, netting three goals and earning two assists in all competitions.
The Danish centre-back was a solid presence inside his half based on his average of 0.8 tackles, 0.7 interceptions and 1.3 clearances per 90 minutes in La Liga. He was even accurate when distributing possession from the back after making 94.3% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Spanish football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Catalan club will expire in the summer of 2026. Hence, it would be difficult for Newcastle to get a deal done for him on the cheap this month.
Is Christensen A Decent Fit For Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe?
Christensen is a solid tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot.
The Danish talent can use his powerful 1.87m frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air when he is playing well on the field. He is even proficient at playing his way out from the back. We can expect him to bring more quality to Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe’s defensive department.
At 28, Christensen is playing in his prime and might help the Magpies compete across all fronts over the next few years. He already knows the Premier League well from his time at Chelsea and won’t take much time to adjust to life at St. James’ Park.
All in all, Christensen would be a good fit for the Tyneside club, so Howe would be wise to get a deal done for him before the end of this summer transfer period.
