new transfer strategy at Tottenham

Published

Ange Postecoglou has been a revelation at Tottenham.

The straight-talking Australian has won fans over with his exciting style of play and no-nonsense approach to handling the media, and for the first time in a long time, Spurs have a manager that fans feel they can trust

The Australian was known at Celtic for picking out gems from lesser-known markets, signing a number of Asian-based players such as Reo Hatate, Kyogo Furuhashi and Daizen Maeda.

We’re yet to see Postecoglou sign any players from that particular market at Tottenham so far, but according to Charlie Eccleshare, speaking on Last Word on Spurs, the manager is convinced that Spurs can gain an edge on their rivals by utilising that transfer strategy.

Postecoglou sold on buying from the Asian market

Eccleshare shared what he knows about the Tottenham manager.

“Yeah, it’s funny, I was talking to a colleague about this yesterday, Postecoglou has talked about this before and he did it at Celtic signing players from the Asian market then and there was an assumption that some of those would follow him to Spurs, but that hasn’t happened. I think it is something they will look into because Postecoglou is really convinced that’s where you can gain an edge on your rivals by looking at markets nobody else is looking into, look at Mitoma at Brighton,” Eccleshare said.

One to watch

This is very interesting to say the least.

As the likes of Kauru Mitoma and Wataru Endo have shown in recent months, there is some serious talent coming out of Asia at the moment, and if you can find those players at source, you’ll discover some gems.

Of course, it is difficult to scout halfway across the world in a league that isn’t littered with talent, but if any manager is going to know what he’s doing in that regard, it’s Postecoglou.

It will be interesting to see if Tottenham do go and get any players from this market from now until the end of the January transfer window.
