‘Never’: Club director now suggests £35m star isn’t for sale amid Chelsea interest
Chelsea may find it difficult to sign one of their reported targets this summer after the CEO of his club played down talk of an exit.
Chelsea are likely to sell some players in the coming weeks, including Trevoh Chalobah, for example.
Chalobah has rebuffed Crystal Palace, but a departure still looks likely after he was excluded from the Blues’ pre-season tour.
At the same time, though, there is a good chance that Chelsea also bring in some more players before the transfer window closes.
It means the Blues could make a move for one attacker as they try to bolster their frontline.
Borussia Dortmund deny Karim Adeyemi is for sale
Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.
Adeyemi could replace Raheem Sterling at Chelsea if the England international leaves this summer, but it looks like they could have some convincing to do.
According to the Daily Mail, Dortmund are open to selling their winger for £35m, but club CEO Lars Ricken has suggested that he is not for sale.
“Every day there is a name in the press that supposedly wants to leave, and there are talks of how much we will earn by selling them,” the Dortmund director was quoted as saying by Ruhr Nachrichten.
“We’ve never opened the door or mentioned any figures, so that’s not an issue for us at all.”
Lars Ricken’s comments will not deter Chelsea
If Chelsea really do want to sign Adeyemi in this transfer window, Ricken and Dortmund’s stance will not stop the Blues from going after him.
Todd Boehly and Co will feel that signing the German is possible. Dortmund have developed a reputation for being a selling club.
With all of that being said, Adeyemi is probably not an attacker worth doing everything to sign. He was not even a key player in Dortmund’s Bundesliga campaign last season.
The Germany international made just 10 starts and only scored three goals. In total, he made 21 appearances, with a ligament injury not helping his cause.
If Chelsea have to pay anything more than £35m for Adeyemi, then it is definitely a deal that they should walk away from.
