criticize FC Bayern Munich’s 125th anniversary celebrations
Why did Vfl Bochum join in the celebrations? It was to show sympathy and solidarity with the German giants.
Well, you have to give them credit for their effort and ingenuity.
In a not-so-shocking turn of events, fans of 1860 Munich (remember them?) attempted to take some of the shine off FC Bayern Munich’s 125th anniversary celebrations this week by putting up an improvised banner on the facade of the top floor of the Galeria Kaufhof building in Munich:
Located next to Marienplatz in Munich’s old town, Galeria Kaufhof is part of the GALERIA department store chain, which offers a wide range of products including clothing, shoes, cosmetics, home goods, appliances and delicatessen. It took a lot of effort and planning to put that banner up there. With their team in 15th place in the 3. Liga, 1860 Munich probably has plenty of time and energy for other activities.
In some ways it’s appealing that a real rivalry still exists (off the pitch, at least), but even such nonsense couldn’t take the shine off Bayern Munich’s week of celebration, which was capped off with a beautiful 3-1 win over VfB Stuttgart on Friday.
Over the years, the rivalry has evolved into a version of the old Charles Atlas advert. But instead of 1860 Munich being the boy on the beach being bullied who eventually reads Atlas’ book, returns to the shore and confronts his tormentor, it’s Bayern Munich bullying 1860 Munich, getting stronger and (probably) hooking up with the wimp’s mother (or at least some variation of that scenario).
Yes, things haven’t exactly been going well for 1860 Munich over the last few decades.
