Michael Carrick reveals fresh Middlesbrough blow ahead of daunting trip

Middlesbrough’s injury concerns are mounting ahead of this weekend’s trip to runaway Championship leaders Leicester City.

Not only are Boro currently labouring without a recognised centre forward, they also lost centre back Dael Fry in the build-up to last night’s loss at Preston North End – and saw midfield starlet Hayden Hackney forced off late in the game at Deepdale.

Reports on Teesside say Hackney, who has played 28 games so far this season, left with a knee injury in the final minute of the 2-1 loss, a result that leaves Boro winless in four and going into Saturday’s showdown at the King Power with 24 hours less to prepare than the Foxes. By contrast Leicester have won four league games on the bounce.

“I haven’t spoken massively to Hayden about it but I think he twisted his knee. Sometimes they can be all right, other times they can be a little bit nasty once they stiffen up a little bit. We’ll have to wait and see on that one too. Manu [Emmanuel Latte Lath] is touch and go for Saturday. But he’s been out for a long time so we have to be a little bit careful with him.”

Latte Lath’s absence combined with that of Josh Coburn leaves Boro without a natural striker, with Sam Greenwood having deputised of late.
