Max Homa fires back after being told he’s PGA Tour’s ‘most unserious player
Max Homa appears to have chosen violence with his first posts on social media after a two-month exile.
The PGA Tour golfer took a break from X because he thought it might help his struggling game
Homa hasn’t won this year and, although he has three top-10s and a T-3 finish at The Masters, he has not performed as he would have liked.
The American triumphed twice last year, was a pillar of consistency and a bright spark in an otherwise underwhelming U.S. Ryder Cup side that was handily defeated in Italy.
He managed to make it to the postseason but finished 70th out of 70 players at last week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship.
The 33-year-old was paired with Si Woo Kim for the first two rounds of this week’s BMW Championship at Castle Pines Golf Club in Colorado.
During their opening round, one spectator whipped out their phone and filmed Kim scrolling through his as he waited for Homa to play a shot.
The user posted the video on social media and wrote: “Si Woo legit on his phone while he waits for the most unserious player on Tour to hit his shot. Going on 15 minutes.
Turns out Homa was waiting for a rules official that took that much time to arrive.
“Have a great day,” Homa wrote in response.
“Keep up the awesome videos!”
Homa ended up carding a 2-over 74 to sit in a tie for 38th after 18 holes.
Kim fared much better with a 3-under 69.
Only the top 30 players in the standings make it through to next week’s Tour Championship at East Lake.
What else happened on day one of the BMW Championship?
US Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley vaulted to the top of the leaderboard with a superb 6-under 66.
Bradley made it to the second leg of the playoffs on the number.
World number one Scottie Scheffler appeared to tweak his back
The 28-year-old was seen wincing after hitting his second shot into the 17th hole.
He later told reporters that he did wake up with a sore back but it’s nothing to worry about.
“It was just a little sore,” Scheffler said. “I’m sure I’ll get some ice on it and stuff and I’ll be totally fine tomorrow.”
