MAN CITY FFP CLAIM MADE BY CARRAGHER AND NEVILLE AS EVERTON AND FOREST PUNISHED
Jamie Carragher and Gary Nevile have given their verdicts on Everton and Nottingham Forest’s trouble with Financial Fair Play and have questioned why Manchester City have not been dealt with yet.
Everton and Nottingham Forest have been found guilty of Financial Fair Play troubles and the Toffees have been handed out fines for the second time this season.
The punishment for Everton’s crime is the second they have received this season with the Merseyside club being handed a 10-point fine earlier this season and now look set for another point deduction.
There have been some questions as to why Manchester City, who reportedly have 115 charges against them, have yet to be given a punishment and ex-Premier League stars Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher agree with this sentiment.
Neville and Carragher on City
Speaking on the Stick To Football show, the pair have questioned why Pep Guardiola’s side have yet to be punished for the crimes they allegedly committed.
“I would like to see an amendment to FFP, I never agreed with it in the first place, the way that it currently is,” Neville said as he urged for change.
“They are different charges [Manchester City’s]. The simple charge against Everton and Nottingham Forest is [breaching] the £105million [threshold for losses] over three years, whereas City’s one is a lot more complex, but it can’t go on for years. It’s gone on for six years, it’s got to be in the interest of everyone to bring that to a head.”
Carragher believes that, judging by Everton’s charges, City could be in deep trouble: “When you think of Everton, they have two charges now and they admitted their guilt and received 10 points [deduction], which I thought was big.
“You think of Manchester City with 115 and think of how complex it might be and City fans, you can think of the repercussions compared to what Everton got with 10 points for one charge, being over £105 million, compared to you with 115.”
City have to be charged
It would not be a good look on the league if they drag on the punishment for the champions whereas they have handed charges to Everton and Forest swiftly.
Yes, these charges are more complex and there are more of them but as Neville says, this can’t drag on for years otherwise there may be a mutiny.
Whether the current champions will get fined or a points deduction remains to be seen but an outcome is needed sooner rather than later.
