Newcastle have been handed a major boost going into this weekend’s Premier League game against Tottenham after news broke that the Brazilian midfielder, Joelinton has snubbed interest elsewhere to sign a new long-term deal at the club.

The 27-year-old was out-of-contract in 2025 with Howe admitting earlier this year he could have been sold this summer had a new deal not been agreed.

There had been reports in Spain that clubs there were looking at him while a return to the Bundesliga was not entirely ruled out by the players entourage, but it’s all now been put to bed with Joelinton signing a fresh deal, and lifting his team ahead of the Premier League game this weekend.

The former Hoffenheim striker said after his new contract was announced: “I feel great. I feel very happy and my family is happy. A lot of things have happened in my years here. I’ve learnt a lot and grown a lot, and for me to come here to Newcastle was the best decision of my career.

“I love playing for the club. I love the club, I love the fans. We had a lot of discussions and I always wanted to be here. I’m glad to continue and I hope to have success in the years to come.”

Tottenham needing crucial points

Spurs go into the game having beaten Nottingham Forest 3-1 in north London. The Lilywhites are fourth on the league table, same as Aston Villa albeit Unai Emery’s side have played a game more than them.

Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou will hope that he can guide the team back into Champions League football after a year out.
