leicester move for carabo cup winner deal during transfer window
Leicester City could be handed a boost in the January transfer window amid long-term interest in Manchester United man Amad Diallo.
City were said to be showing an interest in the winger, who can also play centrally, back in the summer transfer window. He impressed on loan with Sunderland last season, scoring 14 goals in 43 appearances for the Black Cats as they made it to the Championship play-offs.
Diallo made his long-awaited comeback as a second-half substitute in United’s Premier League match against Nottingham Forest last Saturday. He came off the bench to play 36 minutes of the 2-1 loss.
His return to action has led to reports re-emerging over his future. According to HITC, Erik ten Hag is ‘considering’ letting Diallo leave in the January window.
The report adds that former loan club Sunderland are ‘desperate’ to resign him, but City will provide competition with the club having a ‘long-running interest’ in the player. City’s position in the table, plus their style of play under Enzo Maresca could potentially put them ahead in any race should United decide to loan him out this window.
City currently have Abdul Fatawu as their starting winger on the right side of the pitch with Diallo likely to provide competition for that position if he does move to the King Power Stadium. However, the player’s ability to play more centrally could also mean that he covers the attacking midfield role, similar to how Yunus Akgun does under Maresca.
City are likely to be keen to add another attacking midfielder to their squad in January, having missed out on Man City’s James McAtee in the final days of the summer window. The midfielder instead opted to return to former loan club Sheffield United on a season-long loan.
