Leicester City trades that we anticipate taking place soon

We examined a few of Leicester City’s incomings and outgoings for this month.

Inter Milan and Leicester City are negotiating for the permanent signing of Stefano Sensi, a midfield player. Sensi’s contract with Inter expires at the end of the current campaign, and he has failed to get consistent playing time there.
Josh Brownhill, a midfielder for Burnley who has shown promise in the Premier League this year, is a target for the Foxes. Wolverhampton Wanderers are contemplating a bid for him as well.
Harry Souttar, the defender, may be leaving Leicester after losing his starting position under Enzo Maresca. Rangers of the Scottish Premiership have expressed interest in the 25-year-old in the past.

It has been an outstanding season for Leicester City in the Championship so far.

The Foxes endured an incredibly disappointing campaign last season as they were relegated from the Premier League, but they are in a strong position to bounce back to the top flight at the first attempt.

Enzo Maresca’s side have spent much of the season sitting top of the table, and many have predicted that they will break Reading’s second tier points record of 106.

It was an excellent summer of recruitment for Leicester, with nine players arriving at the King Power Stadium, and many of those new additions have made a big impact.

Given the Foxes’ strong squad, the club are likely to be focused on keeping hold of their key players in the January transfer window, but Maresca could look to bring in some reinforcements.

With that in mind, we looked at some of the potential incomings and outgoings that could happen at Leicester this month.

In: Stefano Sensi

According to journalist George, Leicester are in talks with Inter Milan for midfielder Sensi.

Sensi initially joined Inter on loan from Sassuolo in August 2019 before the move was made permanent the following summer, but he has struggled to nail down a regular place in the team at the San Siro.

The 28-year-old has spent time out on loan with Sampdoria and Monza, and after returning to Inter this summer, he has made just four appearances in all competitions for Simone Inzaghi’s side.

Sensi’s contract at Inter expires at the end of the season, and journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that the discussions between the two clubs are about a permanent move to the King Power Stadium.

In: Josh Brownhill

TEAMtalk claimed that Leicester, Leeds United and Middlesbrough were interested in Burnley midfielder Brownhill in the summer, and it seems the Foxes remain keen.

Brownhill is out of contract at Turf Moor at the end of the season, and while the Clarets are ready to trigger a one-year extension, they could face a battle to keep hold of him.

The Mirror report that Wolverhampton Wanderers are plotting a £7 million move for Brownhill in January, but they face competition from Leicester, Crystal Palace and Fulham.

Brownhill starred for Burnley last season as they won the Championship title, scoring seven goals and providing 10 assists in 48 appearances, and he has seamlessly made the step up to the Premier League, netting three goals and registering one assist in 21 games so far this campaign.

Out: Harry Souttar

Defender Souttar joined Leicester from Stoke City last January for a fee of £15 million, but it has not worked out for him at the King Power Stadium.

Souttar made 12 appearances as the club were relegated from the Premier League last season, but he fell out of favour following Maresca’s arrival this summer, and he has featured just four times in all competitions this campaign.

The 25-year-old is currently away on Asia Cup duty with Australia, but he could be set for a move this month, with Leicester said to be willing to listen to offers, according to The Athletic, via the Daily Record (07/01, 6:52pm).

Souttar attracted attention from Scottish Premiership side Rangers in the summer, but it remains to be seen whether the Gers will reignite their interest this month.

Out: Danny Ward

Goalkeeper Ward is another player who could be departing the King Power Stadium.

Ward, who joined the Foxes from Liverpool in July 2018, began last season as the club’s first choice goalkeeper, but he lost his place to Daniel Iversen in March.

The 30-year-old has fallen further down the pecking order this campaign, with both Mads Hermansen and Jakub Stolarczyk ahead of him, and he has not made a single appearance.

According to journalist Netsport.uk, Ward is attracting interest from Cardiff City and Sheffield United, and Maresca was non-committal when asked about the Welsh international’s future.

“We’ll see. In the moment we receive anything for Wardy, we decide,” Maresca told Leicestershire Live.

“But in this moment, I’m not thinking about if we are okay with Mads and Jak, or whether we need Wardy.

“In the moment we receive anything, if we receive, we’re going to decide.”

After allowing Iversen to join Stoke on loan, it is uncertain whether Maresca will sanction the exit of another goalkeeper, but Ward will be desperate to play regular first team football.
