Leicester City receive huge Championship promotion boost
Leicester City’s promotion hopes were this evening boosted after Ipswich Town were held to a goalless draw at home to Watford.
This was only the second time this season Kieran McKenna’s side have failed to score at Portman Road, having also been shut out by Queens Park Rangers in December.
Wednesday night’s result means Leicester remain top of the Championship table with four games to play and can move three points clear of Ipswich and four of Leeds United by winning their game in hand.
There were fears Tuesday night’s defeat away at Millwall could prove to be costly, though the Foxes’ closest competitors have both been involved in stalemates to put promotion back in the hands of Enzo Maresca’s men.
Ipswich made second-half substitutes against Watford on Wednesday night as they searched for a winning goal, though the dramatic finale produced in their recent 3-2 victory over Southampton could not be replicated.
The Tractor Boys will play again on home soil this weekend when Middlesborough make the trip to East Anglia for a 7.45pm kick-off. Leeds will host Blackburn Rovers, who remain embroiled in a battle to avoid relegation after losing heavily at Bristol City on Wednesday, while Leicester are away at another relegation-threatened side in the form of Plymouth Argyle.
