Leicester City manager makes promise after latest crisis
Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca has vowed to return to winning ways following last night’s 3-1 defeat against Leeds United at Elland Road.
The Foxes looked to be on their way to extending their lead at the top of the Championship to 12 points when Wout Faes gave the visitors and early lead. They wasted a number of chances to double their advantage before Daniel Farke’s team produced a stunning late comeback with goals from Connor Roberts, Archie Gray and Patrick Bamford.
It’s a result which sent the Whites to within six points of their promotion rivals, who have now recorded back-to-back defeats after also suffering a loss against Middlesbrough last weekend. Although still a healthy gap, the teams below them will sense a small opportunity to launch a late title pursuit.
Leicester take a break from their league antics this week when they travel to the south coast to take on AFC Bournemouth in the FA Cup fifth round before hosting relegation-threatened Queens Park Rangers next Saturday. Maresca knows the importance of returning to winning ways and has promised that his side will start to deliver the goods once again.
Leeds United secure a 3-1 win over leaders Leicester City, Archie Gray with the second. There’s now just six points between the two. Who wins the Championship?
Via Leicestershire Live, the 44-year-old dismissed comments that his players are starting to buckle under the pressure:
“No, because I never thought to finish this league with 10 more points or 15 more points. This is PlayStation.
“The reality is that at the end the difference between us and the rest will be very small, very tiny. We have now 12 games to go, we are still first with six points ahead. From the next game, we’re going to start again and win games.
“My message with the players since the season started is that winning games, winning games, winning games, it’s not normal what we are doing. I always said to them that at the end, the difference between us and the rest will be a small difference. We are still first and six points ahead, and we are going to try to win games to reach the final target.”
Ipswich Town could also move to within six points of the top this afternoon when they take on Birmingham City at Portman Road.
