Leicester City facing immediate punishment if they earn Premier League promotion
Leicester City are facing a points deduction next season if they are promoted to the Premier League.
That’s the nightmare scenario awaiting the Foxes, should Enzo Maresca mastermind the club’s top-flight return, after it emerged there is an outstanding financial charge against them. Figures due to be released later this week will show that Leicester exceeded the permitted £105m losses allowed in their last three-year period before relegation.
As the club failed to protect its’ top-flight status, they dropped into the Championship – outside the jurisdiction of the Premier League – and into the clutches of the English Football League. But should they return at the first time of asking, it is understood that they will not escape punishment – and they could start their first campaign back with a negative points tally.
The situation has been complicated because of the club’s ongoing row with the EFL. As reported by Mirror Football, they are hoping to avoid a similar fate by selling players at the season’s end to bring their figures back inside the permitted losses allowed in the Championship.
