Legend Predicts Tottenham Fates This Season

Following yesterday’s draw, Alan Shearer has now given his thoughts on where Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur side will finish in the league.

Spurs fought back valiantly twice against Manchester United yesterday but will perhaps be disappointed not to take three points.

Ange’s brave and exciting side showed all the characteristics of the team that Tottenham fans have fallen in love with once again this season.

Rodrigo Bentancur in particular produced an excellent display, one lauded by Jamie Redknapp after the game.

And on the back of these strong performances, which often do lead to Spurs taking three points, it’s certainly interesting to consider where the side will finish in the league.

An eighth placed finish wasn’t good enough for Tottenham last year – the club belongs in European football.

And following yesterday’s match, Alan Shearer has now given his thoughts on where Postecoglou’s Tottenham side will end up this campaign.

Talking on ‘The Rest Is Football’ podcast, Shearer did predict a return to European football.

However, some Spurs fans may think he’s understating their potential a little.

Alan Shearer thinks Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham side are still in a race for fourth place

Speaking on the podcast, Shearer said: “I have been impressed with them and I think they will be there or thereabouts to get into fourth or fifth.”

Spurs currently sit in fifth place level on points with Arsenal but having played one more game.

The gap to Aston Villa is now three points with both sides picking up a draw on their travels yesterday.

And although Shearer suggests it will be a close call, Postecoglou will surely hope that his fledgling Tottenham side will be a shoe-in for a top four spot.

The Spurs boss will surely be targeting both Villa and Arsenal in the months to come, given Manchester City and Liverpool look like they’ll be competing in a title race once again.

Fortunately for the top five, there is something of a gap to West Ham United in sixth, who trail Spurs by six points.

Postecoglou has put some excellent foundations in place this season, and it seems everyone at the club is buying into his ideas.

Spurs do now have a break until the 26th January when they will face Man City in the FA Cup.

And it’ll be interesting to see if they do recruit a talented young midfielder in that period.
