Leeds United boss Speech On The Worse Time At Southampton

Leeds United boss Speech On The Worse Time At Southampton

Before the weekend trip to St. Mary’s, Daniel Farke says he cannot imagine a worse time to play fellow relegated team Southampton. Leeds United will play the Saints, a team that has tumbled out of the early pace-setting pack after losing their past four consecutive Championship games.

Although Russell Martin’s team is still one of the favorites to return to the Premier League, they must break out of current slump as soon as possible. Contrarily, the Whites are in great shape going into the game, having gone six games without losing and picking up three victories in a row.

“Well first of all we know that we’re in good shape, a good moment of the season because six games unbeaten and four clean sheets in a row – pretty impressive performances,” Farke told reporters at his pre-match press conference. “Obviously a really good result in the last game.

“Many points in the last game, we’re happy with the moment but we’re also not over the moon. We know that in this league you always have to be aware that the momentum can change and swing pretty quick.

“You always have to be on it. There’s no time to be overconfident. Once we speak about the moment to play against Southampton, I couldn’t think a worse moment to play against them.

“They have four losses in a row. It’s tricky at times when you have a busy schedule and you play three games in six days to change things.

“One thing is for sure, for a big club with such high ambitions and many quality players, if you have such a period and have a normal week and time on the training pitch, if you look under each and every stone and speak about each and every detail that has to be improved, I’m pretty aware they would have done exactly this. Then a home game against Leeds is a big opportunity.

“To play against us is more or less always a game of the season for the opponent. Then once you’re in red hot form like this, with one game you have the chance to win the momentum back and change the whole mood.

“They got off to a great start this year. They are a pretty strong team, but the Championship presents challenges at times.

“There are moments when things can be challenging, but I am confident that their class will shine at some point and be tremendously determined to find their way in terms of results. Although we travel in a polite manner and I believe they are not far away in terms of performance, you cannot control the exact time you face your opponent.

We acknowledge the challenge and promise to do our best to be prepared and succeed on the road.
