Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford has raved about Leicester City defender Conor Coady with the two sides pushing for automatic promotion from the Championship – describing him as “fantastic”.

Coady joined Leicester last summer for a fee that could reach as much as £8.5m, but he has struggled for game time over at The King Power. Enzo Maresca preferring Wout Faes and Jannik Vestergaard.

Just 10 games has come Coady’s way, despite the former Wolves captain being a 10-time England star. Bamford has played alongside Coady for England – at U18, U19 and senior level during his career.

Speaking on the latest episode of My Mate’s A Footballer podcast, Bamford spoke of his England cap and indeed, the sixth youth caps he won. He played alongside Coady four times in an England shirt.

Twice for England’s U18 side, once for the U19’s and then the one senior cap Bamford has to his name – that 4-0 win over Andorra in 2021. Bamford said how Coady can be fantastic in the changing room.

“Honestly, in a changing room, he’s fantastic. I had him as a teammate at U17, U18 England. He was the captain back then,” Bamford said in the latest episode of his podcast with comedian Joe Wilkinson.

“Even then, he was one of them. But it goes the other way, sometimes you’re just chilling he can’t shut up. But in a changing room he’s fantastic and he was like that when we went away with England.”
