Leeds is prepared to sue Nottingham Forest for millions,
Nottingham Forest face a barrage of lawsuits if found guilty in latest financial twist
There is a ‘long line of clubs’ who will want to be financially compensated if Nottingham Forest are found guilty of financial breaches.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the prospect of further legal action being taken after Forest’s hearing is complete.
Forest were charged with breaching Profit and Sustainability Rules after their 2022-23 accounts were released with the club allegedly exceeding their £61million allowable losses over a three-year period.
The Nottingham-based side are set to hear the verdict of their trial before the end of the 2023-24 season with a points deduction on the cards if found guilty.
As reported by iNews, sports lawyer Simon Leaf also suggested that a guilty verdict would open the ‘floodgates’ for further legal action.
As revealed by Football Insider, Leeds United are ready to take legal action against Forest to demand compensation for their relegation.
Maguire believes clubs will demand financial compensation after the Premier League report this week revealed that each position in the table is worth £3.1million.
“I think many sports lawyers are currently looking at Range Rover brochures and rubbing their hands with glee,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“They’ll be excited at the prospect of litigating on behalf of clubs who have been relegated or finished in the table below Nottingham Forest.
“The Premier League annual report was released in the last few days revealing that each position in the Premier League is worth £3.1million pounds.
“So if Nottingham Forest are deemed to have been given a sporting advantage if found guilty – and they are innocent until proven otherwise – then expect a long line of clubs ready to claim they have been disadvantaged as a result.
“They will want some form of compensation and I suspect that will be financial in nature.“
