Daniel James has warned Leicester City the promotion race is not over yet after Leeds United moved to the top of the Championship table with a win over Millwall.

The 26-year-old netted the Whites’ crucial second goal in the contest after Wilfried Gnonto scored the opener at Elland Road. Leeds are now top of of the league and level on points with Leicester, who were not in action this weekend due to their FA Cup commitments.

Enzo Maresca’s side will have a crucial game in hand against Southampton next month. But the title race is set to go down to the wire as Leeds have managed to close a 17-point advantage over the Foxes, while Ipswich Town remain third, just one point from both teams.

With eight games remaining until the end of the season, James fired a warning to their rivals, saying: “We’ve been great this year to chase that gap [17 points to Leicester at the top of the table] but there’s still eight games to go. It’s not finished yet, we’ll be ready for it after the internationals.”

On his goal, he added: “It came to me on my left foot and it was a bit out of my reach and I didn’t want to drag it wide so I took the touch and I have took the shot so thankfully it’s gone through his legs and into the goal.
