Birmingham City handed third fine of the season as FA dish out big punishment for Bolton melee

Latest Birmingham City news from BirminghamLive as FA act on stoppage-time flare-up at Bolton Wanderers

Birmingham City have been hit with their third fine of the season following a stoppage-time flare-up at Bolton Wanderers earlier this month.

The FA have hit Blues with a sanction of £12,500 after a mass confrontation at the Toughsheet Community Stadium sparked by a tackle on Wanderers’ player Jordi Osei-Tutu. The hosts has been penalised to the tune of £2,500.

Tensions escalated in the fifth minute of added time in Bolton’s 3-1 win on March 4, with all 22 players involved. Osei-Tutu was one of four players booked in the aftermath, with charges later issued against both clubs for failing to control the on-field behaviour.

Blues were also fined £7,500 after a Vertu Trophy victory at Shrewsbury Town last November, a figure tripled for what the FA described as aggravating circumstances.

Another player melee, this time in the “Hollywood” derby against Wrexham saw Birmingham handed a standard penalty of £2,500.

Emil Hansson had scored his first league goal for Blues to put them in front at the Toughsheet Community Stadium – but Wanderers hit back to claim all three points and inflict the visitors’ first league defeat in 19 games.

An FA statement issued after the game said: “Bolton Wanderers and Birmingham City have been charge following the mass confrontation at their EFL League One fixture on Tuesday, March 4.
