Last But Huge! Another Deal “Worth £750,000” Sealed With Birmingham City, The Tittle Is Ours, Says Coach
Scott Wright fee revealed as Rangers accept bid from Birmingham City
Rangers will pocket a fee between £500,000 and £750,000 when Scott Wright completes his transfer to Birmingham City, according to The Fourth Official.
The outlet reported on its website on YouTube channel (28 August, 3:25) that the Light Blues will receive a reasonable six-figure fee for the winger who is in the last year of his contract at Ibrox.
Birmingham appear to have beaten several Championship clubs to the Scotland attacker’s signature, with Sheffield Wednesday known to be interested in his services earlier this summer.
Reports from Sky Sports (27 August, 10:45) suggest that Wright has already travelled to the West Midlands to undergo his medical with Blues and put pen to paper on his contract.
Will Scott Wright exit Rangers amid Birmingham City transfer rumours?
While it is excellent to see Rangers getting reasonable transfer fees for players who are clearly not in Clement’s long-term plans, it is concerning that Wright is somehow worth the same amount as Cantwell.
Reports suggest that the Gers have agreed a £500,000 fee with Blackburn Rovers for the Englishman [Alan Nixon, 28 August] which at best means that he is worth the same amount as Wright and at worst means he is worth a fair bit less.
Ultimately, the most important thing for the Light Blues is that they have got another first-team wage off of their books which should help Clement secure one or two more new arrivals before the window slams shut on Friday 30 August.
While things have started to look a bit more positive on the blue side of Glasgow in the last few days, there is still plenty of work to be done if Rangers want to pip their Old Firm rivals to the Premiership title.
Hopefully, Clement and his recruitment team will be happy with the side that they’re left with when September rolls around.
In other Rangers news, a late Jack Butland exit has been mooted in the final days of the summer transfer window
