Juventus in Trouble for Keeping Chelsea Loanee Veiga

Published

on

Renato Veiga has impressed in his first few Juventus appearances, filling in well for the injured Pierre Kalulu, playing with great intensity, and demonstrating an immediate connection to the squad and the fan support. While his fee is lower than Randal Kolo Muani’s, Tuttomercatoweb reports that the Bianconeri will have a more difficult time retaining him from Chelsea.

The Old Lady spent €5M to have him for the second half of the season, wages included. They didn’t insert an option to buy because Chelsea wanted to set it at €33M plus add-ons. The Turin side settled for a simpler formula.

Veiga will initially head back to London next summer and likely participate in the Club World Club, but Juventus will try to sign him outright if he keeps faring as he has done so far. The figure could decrease a little in case of a permanent deal, but not by a lot.

The Pensioners believe in his potential, which led to a €14M investment to add him from Basel. They’d let him go only for a substantial fee. He has starred exclusively as a center-back in Italy, while he played as a left-back and as a holding midfielder too in his previous stops.

Our Perspective on Juventus and Veiga
He was well regarded prior to his arrival, but the fact that he has fit in seamlessly has been a huge aid during a difficult period for their defence, as Kalulu was their best performer. Lloyd Kelly will stay until something unusual happens, and they can only have so many defenders, particularly expensive ones, so it may come down to him or David Hancko.
