JUST MAD; As Nottingham Forest Face punishment

Published

on

Jamie Carragher was left stunned at something which Nottingham Forest did at the start of last season. The chat around the Reds came on the back of the club being deducted four points for breaching financial fair play.

The Reds are a hot topic of discussion at the moment. It seems that everything Forest do gets scrutinised considerably and the media seems to love to hate on the club right now.

Forest were deducted points after breaching the profitability and sustainability regulations. A number of players have been signed since promotion and ultimately, the haphazard approach has cost Forest a little bit.

The Reds have slipped into the relegation zone on the back of their deduction. An appeal has been lodged but it does feel as though four points is a best-case scenario for Forest.

What Nottingham Forest did that stunned Jamie Carragher

Naturally, the Sky Sports crew of pundits have taken a bit of a dig at Forest once again. This time, Carragher has spoken of his surprise at how many players the Reds have signed since promotion.

It’s sometimes a bit of a lazy presumption that Forest signed the players for the sake of it. Ultimately, going up with a lot of loans and players who were out of contract was always going to see a busy summer.

Okay, Forest did perhaps sign too many who had no impact. However, Carragher thought it was crazy what the Reds did at the start of last season, suggesting it’s no surprise that financial fair play regulations have been broken.

He told The Overlap: The Fans Debate: “It was a basket case. Because you came up it was different rules in the EFL, I get that.

“What you did last year was a bit mad, that wasn’t normal you had players coming in left, right and centre. It wasn’t a brilliantly run operation. It was just mad.”

Forest do have to learn lessons from points deduction fiasco

Carragher in fairness to him has often been quite complimentary about Forest since promotion. He’s one of few pundits who doesn’t appear hellbent on being negative about the club.

He does make some good points here. What Forest did was a little bit excessive in truth and the Reds have to get better on the recruitment side of things if they’re to establish themselves in this league.

Too many players have been signed and then either not played at all or made very little impact. Andrey Santos was a prime example of that, signing on loan from Chelsea and then featuring for just seven minutes.

Carragher does have a point to say that what Forest did in the summer of 2022 wasn’t normal. However, it was a one-off and it’s probably about time pundits let the club move on now.
