Eddie Howe has been looking to sign a new goalkeeper who could become a reliable deputy to Nick Pope and has earmarked Trafford as a potential option.

The reliable journalist wrote on X (12 June) that the 21-year-old goalkeeper has already accepted “contractual terms”, and he is happy to play second fiddle to Pope.

The Magpies have already signed Lewis Hall permanently after he joined the Magpies on loan from Chelsea last season.

Newcastle have also completed the signing of Lloyd Kelly on free transfer. The former AFC Bournemouth centre-back has agreed a five-year deal at St James’ Park.

Fantastic signing from Newcastle United

The Magpies were heavily linked with a move for Aaron Ramsdale during the January window and they retained interest in the Arsenal goalkeeper this summer as well

Ramsdale has dropped down the pecking order at the north London club behind David Raya, but his price-tag proved to be too expensive for the Magpies.

Newcastle showed interest in Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, but once again they were not willing to meet Los Che’s asking price for the player.

The Magpies are under pressure to comply with the Premier League’s financial rules and may need to sell one or two players this month. Both Ramsdale and Mamardashvili would have been quality additions but Newcastle were not in a position to sign them.

Villarreal goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen was also linked with a move, but in the end, Trafford emerged as the best option. He is seen as a highly talented keeper whose best years are ahead of him.

Last season, he made 28 starts in the Premier League, and it appears that he will continue to play in the top tier of English football next season.

His potential arrival could see Newcastle offloading Martin Dubravka who has been linked with a move to Scottish champions Celtic this summer.
