JUST IN; Details of Enzo Maresca chat after Leicester City draw with Hull city
Hull City boss Liam Rosenior says his Leicester City counterpart Enzo Maresca believes the Tigers were the best team the Italian have come up against this season.
The pair played out an enthralling 2-2 draw in front of a capacity crowd at the MKM Stadium with Rosenior’s side twice going in front courtesy of goals from Fabio Carvalho and Anass Zaroury with Jamie Vardy twice responding for the league leaders. Things could have got off to a flying start for City, had Carvalho rattled in a seventh-minute penalty after Regan Slater was fouled, but Mads Hermansen batted it away.
While City dropped out of the play-off zone owing to their point and Norwich City’s thrashing of relegation-bound Rotherham United, there was a huge sense of positivity following the manner of the Tigers’ performance.
It was also the fourth point City have taken off Leicester this season, having won 1-0 at the King Power Stadium in September courtesy of Liam Delap’s winner. It dealt a blow to the Foxes’ hopes of an instant return to the Premier League. Maresca’s men remain top of the league, but their lead has been cut to just three points, though Rosenior believes the East Midlands side will still go up.
“He’s a coach I really respect,” Rosenior said. “He’s done an outstanding job at Leicester. He made some really nice comments about my team, and how we were the most difficult game he’s played and the best team he’s played against, so that means a lot to me.
“I’m a young coach, I’m learning and he’s had amazing experiences. He’s doing an outstanding job, they’ll go up. They will go up, they’re an outstanding team and I expect them to be champions.”
