Just In, Championship clash between Leicester City and Sunderland at the King Power Stadium
Report and free match highlights from the netsport Championship clash between Leicester City and Sunderland at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday night | James Justin heads winner as Foxes run continues.
Leicester recorded an eighth successive victory in the league to move eight points clear at the top of the table with a 1-0 win against Sunderland as James Justin’s first-half header proved decisive.
After 12 minutes, Justin sprang to the top to head in Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s corner and seal the victory. It was the full-back’s first league goal for the team in more than two years.
The Foxes continued their incredible start to the season with a 12th win from 13 league games despite hitting the post twice in the first half and missing other opportunities to expand their lead.
With Tony Mowbray’s team unable to break through the toughest defense in the league, Abdoullah Ba’s close-range shot at the end of the game denied Sunderland’s chance to tie the score. Sunderland has now lost their previous three league games.
The Black Cats had the game’s first chance when a cross from the right ran through to Jack Clarke at the back past only for the midfielder to see his shot turned away by the legs of Leicester goalkeeper Mads Hermansen.
But in the twelfth minute, Leicester’s first serious attempt on goal broke the deadlock as Justin sprang unmarked at the near post to head in a wonderful corner from the left by Dewsbury-Hall.
Shortly after, Foxes winger Stephy Mavididi dribbled into the area and Sunderland keeper Anthony Patterson’s boot brilliantly turned a low shot into a post, giving the home team a chance to score a second goal.
