JUST IN: Bristol Rovers Boss Gave A “Shocking Revelation” About Their Victory Over Wanderers, Was He Sane Enough?

Bristol Rovers boss Calderon on Bolton Wanderers victory

Inigo Calderon hailed the “character” of his Bristol Rovers side as they secured a late win against Wanderers.

Connor Taylor struck at the death after Chris Martin’s brace had been cancelled out by Aaron Morley and John McAtee.

The Gas are now up to 17th in the League One table with a nine-point cushion above the relegation zone.

“After this week, I couldn’t have expected that… to have six (points) against Huddersfield and Bolton,” Calderon told the club channels.

“I think Bolton were a great side, you could see that in the first half. The second half was great, probably the best we have played this year.

“The passion the boys showed and especially because the opposition are probably the best we have played against, so credit to boys. I am so proud of them.”

Martin had been a doubt to play after missing the win against Huddersfield at the weekend with a knee problem.

“We were thinking that maybe we couldn’t play him because he had a small problem in the knee, all of a sudden it was not that bad,” the head coach explained.

“He tried to train yesterday because he wanted to be involved again and I think he was great.

“I spoke with the staff to change it because obviously we don’t want to force him too much and they were saying he wanted the hat trick. We have to protect him and think long term, but he was great”

Calderon was impressed by his side’s resilience to find a winner in the final stages after being pegged back twice at the Memorial Stadium.

“We conceded from set pieces and I think that hurts even more because we know we have to defend better,” he said.

“But sometimes you concede – it is football and in League One, that happens. The character they showed after that was great for the boys.

“The moment they created in the training ground, in the dressing room, it is a different atmosphere.”
