JUST IN: Birmingham City Have Seen Green Light On The Deal Of A Top Rated Player

Rangers are likely to accept offers for defender Connor Goldson this summer, with Birmingham City favourites for the 31-year-old.

According to Football Insider, the defender’s future at Ibrox is currently up in the air, and a move back south of the border is a possibility. Rangers are currently under financial pressure as they look to renovate part of their stadium, so getting Goldson off the wage bill may help to that end.

It’s being reported that while the centre-back did link up with his teammates for pre-season, his mind may be elsewhere. It’s believed the St Andrews’ outfit have already discussed a contract with Goldson and his representatives as they look to gain promotion from League One at the first time of asking. There is, however, interest elsewhere with several clubs in Saudi Arabia also keen on the player, but it’s thought that Goldson would prefer to stay in the UK.

Should Birmingham secure his signature, it would be a statement of intent for a club who aren’t messing around as they seek immediate promotion to the Championship. New manager Chris Davies has already been busy in the transfer window with signings such as Alfie May, and the club’s owners have reportedly given him up to £20 million to spend.

With a Transfermarkt value of £5 million, signing Goldson would make a sizeable dent in their transfer kitty, but it may be a move the Blues have to make given how thin they currently are at the back.

This is another move which, if pulled off, will highlight Birmingham’s ambitions. They’ve not been shy in their dealings and want to spend as little time in the third tier as possible, and Goldson should help this.

He’s also a strong leader, which is important to any side with title ambitions, and has experience of high-level football as well as silverware.
