3 attacking midfielders Birmingham City should eye this summer with loan duo departing
Birmingham City have recruited extensively this season so in the summer window, they shouldn’t actually have much work to do in the transfer market.
Birmingham City won’t have many gaps to plug when the summer transfer window comes around. BCFC have recruited for the Championship while in League One, but eyes will be on some areas
One position that looks likely to need strengthening is attacking midfield. Of course, the Blues have versatile permanent players who can operate there, but as for natural number 10s, both Luke Harris and Kieran Dowell are only in on loan.
As such, it seems likely that a new face or two will arrive in that area ahead of next season, regardless of what area City find themselves in.
With that in mind, we put forward three attacking midfielders who should be eyed by Birmingham City this summer…
Kieran Dowell – Rangers
While perhaps a fairly easy suggestion, there probably won’t be many complaints if BCFC try to strike a permanent deal for aforementioned loan man Dowell this summer.
He’s got bags of Championship experience to his name and is down the pecking order at Rangers. The former Everton youngster seems happy with Birmingham City too, so he might be receptive to the idea of staying put and joining the journey at St. Andrew’s for good.
The 22-year-old scored his second Blues goal in the 1-0 win over Lincoln City at the weekend.
Andrew Moran – Brighton & Hove Albion
Irish international Andrew Moran has been a regular in the Championship in recent seasons, spending last year with Blackburn Rovers before joining Stoke City for this year.
The 21-year-old is a talented and versatile player who could be of use at Brighton down the line, but a first-team breakthrough seems unlikely in the short-term. That could feasibly open the door to another Championship loan or a permanent move, one that should pique the interests of Birmingham City.
Moran would be a great fit for the Blues’ attacking midfield role and he boasts the balance of promising youth combined with decent second-tier experience thanks to his loans.
Ianis Hagi – Rangers
Last but not least would be a bit of a statement signing for BCFC, and it’s one of Dowell’s Rangers teammates.
Ianis Hagi is a big name but he’s out of contract this summer, so free transfer interest will be strong. Birmingham City have the financial firepower to agree a wage deal with the Romanian while saving money on not having to fork out a loan or transfer fee.
Hagi is electric at his best and could be a big asset in the Championship. While at his best in attacking midfield, he can play on the left-hand side too
