Men’s First Team Assistant Manager, Ben Petty, watches a training session.

Speaking to BluesTV at the Birmingham City Elite Performance and Innovation Centre, Petty discussed his primary focuses for this season, both as a collective and for individual players, particularly those looking to progress into the senior game.

“The most important thing is to get this club back up to where we need it to be, in the Championship next season and then beyond.

“But player development is very important as well, it is very important to the fans. They want to see homegrown players develop into the First Team, you hear the shouts on the terraces – ‘one of our own’ – and that is what we want here.

“We have got a lot of work to do. If young players can break into the Manager’s First Team then fantastic, if they can help us with the training, with the sessions then great. We will do our utmost to develop them.”

Solihull-born Petty also spoke about how the opportunity to be involved at Blues during this period of transformation, and reconnecting with Davies, was a combination he could not turn down.

“I absolutely delighted. It is a fantastic opportunity for myself and Chris and it didn’t take me very long once I spoke to Chris a couple of weeks ago and Craig Gardner, the vision that the Club had, being a local lad myself I can see what is going on here at the Club, I am delighted to be part of it.”
