Journalist names favourites to sign Scott McKenna amid Rangers and Celtic hints

Speaking to GiveMeSport on Monday (8 January), the Netsport.uk journalist said a reliable source has told him that both Old Firm clubs want to complete a deal for the Scotland international this month.

He added that the 27-year-old’s camp didn’t deny rumours that the centre-back had a fallout with former Forest boss Steve Cooper, but he hasn’t come back into the side under new manager Nuno Espirito Santo as he looks set to leave the City Ground.

“Celtic look like favourites to sign McKenna,” said Crook. “Somebody very reliable told me that both big Scottish clubs are in for him.

“He wasn’t playing at Forest towards the end of Cooper’s reign. His camp never denied rumours about a fallout with Cooper, but he’s not come back in under Nuno.

“I think he’s probably just not quite quick enough for the Premier League now, so maybe the Scottish Premiership would be a good move for him.”

Power of persuasion

It sounds as though Rangers and Celtic are once again going head to head to sign a player after both clubs were previously interested in Fabio Silva.

Although the Hoops are believed to be the frontrunners at this moment in time, the Gers are going to have to rely on Philippe Clement’s power of persuasion once again after he is believed to have played a major role in ensuring the Portuguese forward made the move to Ibrox.

McKenna’s time at Forest definitely looks set to come to an end this month after falling out of favour at the City Ground, having featured just five times in the Premier League this season, the most recent of which was back in September against Burnley.

The Scotsman started 19 games in the English top flight last season and it would’ve been more if it wasn’t for injuries, suggesting he is more than capable of coming in and performing in the SPFL for the Light Blues.

It would be a real blow to whichever Old Firm side fails to land the centre-back, so they will both be doing all they can to persuade him their club is the place for him to win more silverware if he makes the move to Glasgow.

In other Rangers news, a Sky Sports pundit has shared who would be a “terrific” signing for the Gers.
