Jean-Kevin Augustin drama 2.0 on the cards at Leeds United .

Leeds United look as though they could be getting themselves in a bit of a legal wrangle again.

It’s not the first time in recent years that an Elland Road transfer has been the subject of conflict between the Whites and another club because of the Jean-Kevin Augustin controversy that was only resolved earlier this year.

Leeds were ordered by FIFA to pay £40million to both RB Leipzig and Augustin for failing to sign the striker at the end of a botched loan spell in 2020.

Leeds signed Augustin on loan from Leizpig but a clause inserted in the deal meant that they had to sign him if they won promotion to the Premier League, which they did.

However, Augustin played just three times as a substitute in that injury-hit spell and Leeds refused to sign him, citing that the extension of the season due to COVID meant that the permanent transfer clause had become irrelevant.

FIFA disagreed and as per The Telegraph, Leeds had to pay Augustin £24.5million, as well as a fee to Leipzig.

It now looks as though we have the makings of yet another transfer controversy at Elland Road.

The Athletic reported on Thursday (17 August) Bournemouth believe they triggered Tyler Adams’ release clause before it expired.

It is understood the Cherries feel they offered £20million for the USA captain, who has a “time-limited relegation release clause in the contract he signed with Leeds last summer”.

Bournemouth are said to believe they offered that fee on Monday (14 August), before that deadline passed.

Speaking on The Square Ball podcast on Friday (18 August), Phil Hay said: “We have been told from the Bournemouth end that Bournemouth think they activated Adams’ clause on Monday, or at least made a bid that would have gone close.

“You would think, given the clause is self-explanatory, they would have hit it right on the button.

“But he’s still here, he was at Thorp Arch yesterday (Wednesday, 16 August).

“He hasn’t gone at this stage. It’s all rather opaque, really.”

Adams is still training with Leeds, which suggests he’s not about to go on strike over a potential move to Bournemouth (something Willy Gnonto and Luis Sinisterra should learn from).

It’s admirable of him to be getting on with the job and tying him in with the likes of Gnonto, Max Wober, Brenden Aaronson, Rasmus Kristensen et al is simply wrong.

But if Bournemouth are correct about the release clause, there could be trouble brewing at Leeds yet again on the transfer front.
