Bolton Wanderers primed for ‘entertaining’ January window
IAN Evatt has prepared Wanderers fans for an “entertaining” conclusion to the January transfer window with movement expected in both directions at the Toughsheet Stadium.
Joel Randall this week became Bolton’s most expensive signing in more than a decade as he completed a move from Peterborough United for a reported fee of £1.2million.
Three weeks remain before deadline day, and Evatt believes there is plenty more business to be done.
“There will be incomings and outgoings, I don’t see how there can’t be,” said the Bolton boss.
“I think we need to freshen and evolve the squad a little bit, not too much, but a little. And we have got plans on how to do that.
“I think it is going to be entertaining, so bring your biscuits.
“At the moment the offer for another player we had was rejected and we are looking at things. We have also rejected an offer ourselves this week, one of our own. Things are developing all the time.
“This window is crazy, and things can develop almost by the hour. We just have to stay fluid and be ready to make fast decisions.”
One player linked with Wanderers over the last few days has been Norway Under-21 international Jonas Therkelsen, who plays for top flight side Strømsgodset.
Polish title-chasers RKS Raków Częstochowa are also said to be chasing the midfielder’s signature, with the Norwegian press claiming a bid was rejected last week.
Evatt confirmed the youngster was on the club’s radar.
“He’s a player we are aware of, of course, these things always seem to get out somewhere along the line. He is a player we think would fit what we want to do but he’s not our player at the moment, so that’s all I’m willing to say.”
Wanderers are at the limit of their EFL quota and would need to either de-register or sell players if they are to bring in any other outfield player aged 21 or over.
Evatt hopes he can produce the kind of transformative signings that he did in his first season in charge, where the club’s winter business led to a late surge up the table to secure automatic promotion.
He said: “Januarys can be exciting. If you go back to 2021, that really catapulted us to where we wanted to be. They can be used really wisely and I think come the end of this window I am pretty confident the team and the squad will be better than when we entered it.”
