Chris Davies gives updates on Wright and Dykes after Birmingham City duo limp off at Reading

Scott Wright and Lyndon Dykes limped off during Birmingham City’s 0-0 draw with Reading on Saturday

Chris Davies is braced for his Birmingham City squad to be tested after Scott Wright and Lyndon Dykes’ names were added to the injury list.

Wright only lasted eight minutes of Blues’ 0-0 draw with Reading on Saturday. The winger’s studs got caught in the turf at the Select Car Leasing Stadium and his right knee buckled underneath him.

The former Rangers winger didn’t require a stretcher to leave the field, but he appeared emotional as he approached the Blues bench and made his way backstage.

“I haven’t actually seen it but the mechanism apparently doesn’t look nice,” said Davies. “They are testing his ligaments and stuff but we’ll just have to wait for the scan because you’re never quite sure.”

Wright was a surprise starter in a League One fixture for just the third time. Willum Willumsson replaced Wright.

“My thinking with Scott was to use his speed,” Davies explained. “I knew it would be quite a scrappy game. When you can’t get control of the game, sometimes Ethan (Laird) can’t get high enough because the game is never settled, and if he can’t we need width, pace and penetration on that side and around Lyndon who is going to hold the ball up.

“It did unsettle us in that first half because the whole game plan changes when you take off a winger in Scott and bring in what is an inverted winger, midfielder in Willum.”

Dykes succumbed to an injury shortly after missing the game’s gilt-edged chance in the second half. The Scotland international pulled up on the run and limped off the pitch.
