‘He’ll go…’ – Chris Jack shares new Rangers transfer update

Chris Jack has suggested Scott Wright could leave Rangers this summer amid rumours about an exit, with his role in the squad becoming less useful for Philippe Clement.

The Rangers Review journalist explained that even as a back-up option he is slipping down the pecking order and he could be better leaving in search of first-team football.

However, it was suggested that he remains useful to fill UEFA quotas for domestic and homegrown players when competing in the Europa League and Champions League.

Speaking on The Rangers Review [28 March], Jack shared: “I think he is what he is, he’s a player of a certain level. Is he a good option to have at times? Yes, but I think those times are becoming more and more fleeting.

“That wide right position is definitely one Rangers will look to strengthen come the summer and you’ve got the Sima situation, the Cortes situation and the Matondo situation.

“He still ticks a box for the UEFA match list as well so that’s a conversation Rangers have to have, you need to have a Scottish core and Scottish quota within the squad, I think he’s probably benefited from that.

“I think if he does move on, he’ll go and play regular first-team football somewhere, but regular match action is not going to come at Ibrox next season.”

Could Scott Wright leave Rangers this summer?

As Jack shared, the opportunities to play football are becoming fewer and fewer for Wright, especially with the likes of Sima, Cortes and Matondo in consideration, as he continues to slip down the pecking order, so a move could be the best option.

Derek Ferguson has also suggested Wright could be set for a move away from Glasgow this summer, as he claimed he would not be set for a long-term commitment as Clement will want to shake up his squad over the transfer window.

This all comes after he looked set for a move to Turkey during last summer’s transfer window, going as far as to travel out for negotiations before no move materialised and he remained at Ibrox for the season.

Wright’s time at Rangers has been successful and laden with silverware, and if he can help them to another SPFL title win this season amid the ongoing battle for first place, he will leave knowing he has achieved plenty.
