Newcastle United youngster Harrison Ashby will be looked at by loan chief Shola Ameobi in the next few weeks.

Newcastle United have sent Harrison Ashby back to Swansea City after successful treatment on a hamstring injury.

Ashby starred for the inconsistent Swans for the first time in 11 matches since his enforced return to Newcastle in December. His comeback game at the Swansea.com Stadium was not without incident.

He played 65 minutes for Swansea and despite a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Southampton, Ashby was involved in the best moment of the match for the Welsh club.

Ashby beat his man wide on the right before setting up Jamie Paterson to score in the first half but neither the Londoner or Swansea could add to the home side’s tally and the game ended 3-1.

Ashby scored the winning goal with a header in a 2-1 win over Glasgow Rangers in pre-season to send 8,000 Geordie fans home happy from Ibrox. But Howe stated later last summer that he was one for the future and needed to get out on loan.

Howe had said: “He’s certainly made improvements since he’s joined us. “He’s had a couple of hamstring injuries initially, which set him back. He’s training, he’s doing well. “He’s certainly a player we believe in for the future.”

Swansea hope that Ashby will soon be back to full fitness and get a good run of games under his belt. Loan chief Shola Ameobi will make the long trip to South Wales to check out his performances in the Championship.
