Greg Taylor’s injury to Celtics is a blow, since Rodgers is short on left back

Celtic will be without Greg Taylor for a “few weeks” due to a calf injury, giving Brendan Rodgers a left-back problem to deal with.

The Hoops were already targeting a new player in that position to challenge their undisputed first pick, with Alexandro Bernabei well out of the picture. They’ve so far been unable to add one, with winger Nicolas Kuhn their only capture of the January window so far.

So the last thing they would have wanted would be for Taylor to pull up with an injury but that is exactly what has happened. Rodgers has revealed that the 26-year-old felt an issue with his calf towards the end of the win over Buckie Thistle and will now miss the next few weeks of action for Celtic.

“So sadly he’s out, which is a shame because he’s been excellent and very consistent over the course of the season so far.”

Bernabei would be one possible replacement but hasn’t played since a run out against Hearts mid-December and only has four appearances this season.
