revan Sanusi impressing in Japan with Newcastle United

The Magpies are currently in Japan for a pre-season tour, with Newcastle beating Urawa Red Diamonds 4-1 on Wednesday.

Howe put out a strong team against the J1 League side, but gave some youngsters an opportunity in the second half.

One of those players was Trevan Sanusi, a 17-year-old winger who has made a major impression since arriving from Birmingham City in 2023.

The teenager appeared in the second half against Urawa Reds and was very impressive, hinting towards a bright future in black and white.

What Eddie Howe has said about Trevan Sanusi

Howe is certainly a fan of Sanusi, and has spoke to the netsport about the youngster’s performances in pre-season.

“He’s very clever with the ball,” he said.

“He’s got lots of tricks in his bag that he can pull out from time to time.

“I’m excited by him. I think he’s got the basics of a really good framework to build from. It’s going to be up to us and for him to develop those skills and talents.”

Howe added: “For someone so young, I think he’s made a good impression.”

Newcastle have a very exciting talent on their hands

Howe is excited by Sanusi, and so he should be. He plays with a lot of confidence despite his age, and already looks very comfortable when he gets on the ball.

Physically, he needs to improve, but that will come in time. He is still only 17, after all.

But Sanusi is a star in the making, with Howe eager to see what the future holds for the attacker. As the manager says, it will be up to him and his coaching staff to ensure that Sanusi achieves his potential.

Hopefully he will get more chances to impress in pre-season, starting on Saturday against Yokohama F Marinos.

After that, it will really benefit Sanusi if he continues to train with the Newcastle United first-team. He is too young to go out on loan, and training with the likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak is only going to help him improve.

The sky is the limit for Sanusi, and he certainly has an admirer in Eddie Howe.
