Confirmed: Birmingham City agree winger transfer with Championship outfit

Siriki Dembele’s Birmingham City career is over after the winger completed a transfer to Championship outfit Oxford United.

The 27-year-old has moved for an undisclosed fee after failing to convince Chris Davies of his place in Blues’ future – a move that brings to an end a short St Andrew’s career that had a few highlights but little of the consistency the new manager craves.

Dembele arrived at Blues from Bournemouth in July 2023 having struggled to replicate his creative best at Peterborough United, with the Cherries.

He seemed to make a good start under John Eustace but as the club lost their way with managerial changes so too Dembele’s impact reduced. In the end he scored six goals in 38 appearances, only one of which came this season when after a commendable pre-season Davies picked him in the first game.

However, with Blues labouring at home to Reading Dembele was substituted at half time and his replacement, Emil Hansson went on to win the penalty that earned Blues a point. It would be the last time he would play for Davies.

The left wing berth is now between Hansson and new arrival Ayumu Yokoyama with Dembele now set to feature for Des Buckingham’s Us who have won one and lost two of their Championship fixtures so far this term
