Brighton midfielder Marc Leonard will finalise a move to Birmingham City today after agreeing terms, sources have told Football Insider.

The 22-year-old is set to sign a four-year deal with the League One club after being deemed surplus to requirements at Brighton.

The Scot had two impressive seasons with Northampton Town, helping the club win promotion from League Two and consolidate their place in League One the following campaign.

It’s been a busy summer for Birmingham as they seek to earn promotion back to the Championship at the first time of asking.

Leonard is set to join Christoph Klarer, Willum Thor Willumsson, Emil Hansson, Alex Cochrane, Ryan Allsop and Bailey Peacock-Farrell who have all also signed for the club.

Leonard joined Brighton from Scottish side Hearts in the summer of 2018 and only played twice for the first team but enjoyed a fruitful academy career.

In 39 appearances for Brighton’s Under-18s and 40 for their under-23s, Leonard scores six goals from central midfield during his time in their youth ranks.

The Scottish midfielder would go on to play 97 times for Northampton Town where he played an integral role in their recent success.

Birmingham suffered relegation from the Championship last season after an impressive start to the campaign that saw them reach as high as sixth.

Sacking John Eustace and appointing Wayne Rooney proved to be a disastrous move and the club now find themselves in English football’s third tier.

Leonard may not be the only Scottish midfielder set to leave Brighton, Football Insider revealed (July 22) the club are willing to accept a £10million-plus bid for Billy Gilmour this summer.
