Gary O’Neil could truly unlock Jorgen Strand Larsen if Wolves sign ‘sublime’ transfer target

Wolves must push hard to sign one rumoured transfer target before deadline day for several reasons.

Gary O’Neil has a familiar task to overcome at Wolves before the end of the month, as the club must bolster the squad on a tight financial leash

Despite offloading Pedro Neto and Max Kilman for significant profit, Wolves have a limited budget to spend for the remainder of the transfer window.

Selling Neto to Chelsea was a must for Wolves, who were presented with an offer too good to refuse for the winger.

O’Neil has an incredibly difficult task to overcome to replace the Portugal international however, one target could certainly replenish the manager’s options going forward.

Feyenoord winger Calvin Stengs has been mentioned as a player that Wolves have ‘asked about’ this summer, as journalist Graeme Bailey reporte

Matt Hobbs and O’Neil must now work incredibly smart to ensure that the squad is up to scratch for the 2024/25 campaign, with one target capable of making the difference.

The 25-year-old joined Feyenoord last summer from OGC Nice and came to life under Arne Slot, thriving on the right side of attack where he recorded 26 goal contributions in all competitions.

O’Neil would be smart to test his luck in a bid to lure the Dutchman away from Feyenoord, with the move having the potential to provide Wolves with more than just a Neto replacement.

Why Stengs would be perfect for Jorgen Strand Larsen

Recording 18 assists last season, there are very few creators better than Stengs at Feyenoord, as his numbers prove.

Strand Larsen has shown that he is capable of being the number nine presence that the Old Gold desire, however, work is needed to get the former Celta Vigo ace up to speed.

That is where Stengs could come in, with the versatile creator’s experience at Feyenoord having the potential to come of great use at Molineux.

Lauded as ‘sublime’ by Serbian Football Scout on X, the Eredivisie star has showcased how well he can combine with his attacking teammates, most prominently Feyenoord talisman Santiago Gimenez.

Breaking the line explained why Stengs is such a good match for the Mexico international, with a description that could fit what Strand Larsen requires to get the ball rolling at Wolves.

Described as a striker who is ‘physically aggressive’, Gimenez pairs well with Stengs due to the Dutchman’s ability to ‘react accordingly’ to the striker’s movements where he can offer a ‘passing option near the striker’.

Strand Larsen’s movement and presence in and around the box is encouraging with the only thing missing being an opening goal, which he was so desperate to secure in pre-season.

Adding a creative master such as Stengs to the XI could provide O’Neil with the perfect match for Strand Larsen, being a player who has already worked closely with a forward of his profile.
