Gabriel Agbonlahor has given his verdict on speculation that Tottenham Hotspur are about to sign Timo Werner.
The former Aston Villa striker and talkSPORT pundit has questioned why RB Leipzig are willing to offload Werner yet again.

Well, according to Sky Sports, Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a deal with RB Leipzig over signing Timo Werner in the January transfer window.
The former Chelsea forward will initially join Tottenham on a loan deal. The North London club will have the option to make it permanent in the summer of 2024.
The Guardian has reported that Spurs head coach Ange Postecoglou was the one who wanted to sign Werner, who has pace and power.
The report noted that the former Celtic manager thinks that the 27-year-old “would suit his tactical plans due to his pace, intensity and ability to meet the pressing demands key to Tottenham’s strategy.”
Former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor does not seem to think that it is a good idea for Spurs to sign Werner, noting how he struggled during his time at Chelsea.
The talkSPORT pundit has also asked why RB Leipzig are ready to offload the 27-year-old Germany international forward for the second time. The Bundesliga club sold Werner to Chelsea in 2000 before re-signing him in 2022.
Agbonlahor said about Werner and Tottenham on talkSPORT (6:53 pm, January 6, 2024): “First of all, the reason why I am not sure is why for the second time are Leipzig happy to let him go. There’s a reason why he has scored two goals in 14 games this season.
“Why are they letting him go halfway through the season? In the Premier League, he got 10 goals in 56 games. He is that frustrating player.
“You watch him, and he is like one day making the right runs, making the right finish, and the next game he will be erratic like Mudryk is, running out of play or making the wrong runs, he will run into someone, he will be one-on-one and miss a chance, a bit like he is not prolific. He reminds me a bit of Nunez when he finishes, not prolific.”
My View: Timo Werner cannot play as a striker for Tottenham Hotspur
In my opinion, Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou cannot play Timo Werner as a striker. I believe that the former Chelsea player should be played out wide or off Richarlison.
Werner has pace and works hard, but he is not prolific. The Germany international has scored only two goals in eight Bundesliga appearances this season.
During his time at Chelsea, the forward scored 10 goals in 56 appearances in the Premier League.
