Nottingham Forest among four Premier League clubs eyeing AC Milan winger

A number of Premier League sides have shown interest in AC Milan winger Alexis Saelemaekers who finds himself out of favour at the San Siro.

Alexis Saelemakers of AC Milan looks on during the Friendly match between PSV Eindhoven and AC Milan at Philips Stadion on December 30, 2022 in Eindhoven, Netherlands.

Several Premier League clubs including Nottingham Forest could be in the picture to sign AC Milan man Alexis Saelemaekers.

According to reports by Sports Witness from Italy, Forest and Leicester City are competing for the winger’s signature – he scored four times in 30 appearances while on loan at Bologna last season. West Ham United and Fulham are also rumoured to be keen on the player.

The winger – who represents Belgium – was originally loaned to Milan from his first club Anderlecht in 2020 before penning a permanent deal, that summer. He found it difficult to sustain a first-team spot before being loaned to fellow Serie A outfit Bologna – who he helped qualify for the UEFA Champions League – last season.

Despite his talents, he is down the pecking order at the San Siro with Christian Pulisic and Samuel Chukwueze favoured by Stefano Pioli last term. Reports from Italy suggest Milan value the player at between £8.5m to £16.8m which would be a fair price for a 25-year-old who is yet to reach his peak.

On his frosty relationship with the former Milan boss, his friend opened up in an interview with Milan News , he said: “It was Mister Pioli who unloaded him and put him on the market. But we never went into too much detail. He and I have been great friends since we were very young but it’s not like we talk about football every time we see each other.”

Earlier in the interview he said: “I don’t know if it was a mistake but in my opinion he had what it takes to play another season in the Rossoneri. Alexis has the level to play for Milan. And not only that, he can do it anywhere. I think that if Maldini had stayed, Saelemaekers would still be a Milan player today.”

If he was to arrive at the City Ground he would become Nuno Espirito Santo ’s sixth signing of the summer with Elliot Anderson, Nikola Milenkovic, Marko Stamenic, Carlos Miguel and Eric da Silva Moreira having already penned deals.

Saelemaekers is fit and ready to go – he played 45 minutes in Milan’s pre-season fixture against Rapid Wien on Saturday 20 July.
