Final 10 Days Of The Transfer Window! Birmingham City’s Coach Revealed Plans After Fulham “Failed” Deal
Stansfield signs, Donovan stays in Birmingham City’s dream end to the transfer window
We are into the final 10 days of the transfer window and for Birmingham City it’s a case of fine-tuning.
Chris Davies has worked in tandem with technical director Craig Gardner to acquire 11 new players in the past two months. Blues have spent plenty of cash to transform the squad that got the club relegated from the Championship last term.
There are still areas to address and, as ever at this stage of the window, departures could change plans. But, ideally, Blues would welcome three new players to St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park to complete Davies’ squad.
The dream conclusion
Without wanting to tread over old ground, if Blues could somehow convince Fulham to sell Jay Stansfield before the deadline then it would be an absolute dream. Stansfield fell in love with Blues during his loan spell last season and everyone inside the building wants it to happen. Fulham, however, are not willing sellers and Stansfield would have to force the move at this stage.
A left-footed centre-back to give Davies some balance at the back would be welcomed. Blues tried to sign Dutch centre-back Mike Eerdhuijzen earlier in the window so a player of a similar profile would fit.
Davies does seem to have become comfortable with the idea of playing two right-footed centre-backs with left-back Alex Cochrane tucking in to form a back three in possession. This allows Krystian Bielik to show off his ability on the ball in the middle of the back three.
And a box-to-box midfielder in the mould of Jordan James wouldn’t go amiss either. Blues need an alternative to Marc Leonard and Paik Seung-ho.
In terms of outgoings Blues could do without any notable exits before the deadline on August 30. Blues could cope with losing Siriki Dembele with Emil Hansson and Ayumu Yokoyama in the building, but losing Koji Miyoshi would force Blues back to the negotiating table. Miyoshi has been central to Davies’ system so far but there is some interest in the 27-year-old Japanese
We all expect George Hall to depart now but a loan would be better than a permanent deal. Hall has enormous potential and is worth being patient with after 12 months of hamstring troubles.
Romelle Donovan has arguably greater potential than Hall, hence why Premier League teams are keeping an eye on him. The 17-year-old was part of Blues’ plans in pre-season and supporters would be sad to see him leave.
But, if Blues can secure a good fee to reinvest in future windows, then the process has to be trusted. The key for Davies will be to avoid losing anyone he has to go out and replace.
Sky has slashed the price of its Sky Sports, Sky Stream, Sky TV and Netflix bundle in an unbeatable new deal that saves £216 and includes 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.
With Ultra HD included at no extra cost, football fans can enjoy the 2024/25 season with crystal clear picture quality.
