‘Fantastic’ £25m player is already showing early signs he will fit Wolves like a glove
Wolves have signed a player this summer who could genuinely turn out to be an amazing addition.
Last night in Annapolis, Wanderers crashed to their first defeat in pre-season, losing 3-1 to Crystal Palace.
The result is not so important, but it was just a reminder for Wolves that there are things that need to be worked on.
Weak performances from the goalkeepers didn’t help Wolves’ cause, with fans left a little worried about the depth in that department.
But aside from the errors from Dan Bentley and Tom King, it was another positive showing from Wolves and Gary O’Neil was still fairly pleased after the contest.
And one man he will surely be quite pleased with is Jorgen Strand Larsen – who made another good impact.
Two assists in two games for Wolves newbie Jorgen Strand Larsen
It was important for Wolves to sign a new striker this summer.
Last term, Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-chan both had stints through the middle. While they did well, Wolves needed a focal point, and someone who is going to be between the sticks to gobble up chances.
Strand Larsen is expected to do that.
But he is already showing that he isn’t just about scoring goals – although he is yet to bag in Wolves colours.
Against Palace, Strand Larsen provided an assist, which was his second in consecutive matches.
Wolves were 2-0 down, but managed to get it back to 2-1 after some really smart play by the Norwegian, who was the target for a cross and backheeled the ball to Santi Bueno for a simple tap in.
It was good awareness from the striker to get the ball back into the box, where he knew there would be a teammate waiting.
In the game before against Palace, Strand Larsen again showed good awareness by firing in a low cross, that time finding Cunha to fire home.
So, two assists in as many games for Strand Larsen, who looks like he could fit the Wolves system like a glove. O’Neil is already pleased, describing the star as ‘fantastic’ after the game with West Ham.
He may not have scored himself yet, but Strand Larsen already looks like someone who is going to flourish for Wolves in the Premier League.
Clearly, he has good awareness of his teammates in the final third. And he is willing to pull out wide if needs be, which creates space centrally for other players.
He has shown himself to be a good creative outlet already, and he knows that there will be runners flooding the box. This is something O’Neil has always been big on.
The 24-year-old, who will turn his loan move to Wolves permanent for a total of £25 million, seems like the player O’Neil has craved for a while.
He is someone who can score goals himself, but also link up brilliantly with those around him. He looks to be a player who will fit nicely into O’Neil’s mobile attack.
