Croatian midfielder Ivan Sunjic has joined Cypriot side Pafos after being released by Birmingham City.

The 27-year-old has bided his time before choosing a new club since leaving St Andrew’s three months ago. Sunjic was one of six senior players who left Blues at the end of their contracts following the club’s relegation to League One.

Sunjic – who made 183 appearances for Blues in total after becoming the club’s record signing in 2019 – featured prominently in his final season. The midfielder racked up 36 Championship appearances and scored in Blues’ 3-0 win over Coventry City in April.

He will now embark upon a new chapter of his career in Cyprus. Pafos are used to competing in the upper echelons of the table and finished fifth in the table last season in addition to winning the Cypriot Cup.

They defeated Lithuanian side Zalgiris over two legs in the Europa Conference League second qualifying round on Wednesday. Sunjic will be eligible for their next qualifying match against Bulgarian club CSKA 1948.

Of the other players who departed Blues at the end of their contracts, John Ruddy has joined Newcastle, Neil Etheridge has moved to Thailand with Buriram United, Marc Roberts has re-signed for Barnsley and Gary Gardner has linked up with Garry Monk at Cambridge United. Scott Hogan is the only one left without a club.
